Class Description: Join Cecile Hansen, the revered Chairwoman of the Duwamish Tribe, for a hands-on class in the art of making traditional Native American fry bread. Cecile, who has served as the Duwamish Tribe’s chairwoman for over 50 years, will guide you through the cultural history, significance, and techniques of crafting this beloved dish that has been passed down through generations. The cost of the class is $20.00 to help with the cost of ingredients and the facility.

In this intimate, small-group setting, participants will:

  • Hands-on Fry Bread Making: Under Cecile’s guidance, participants will prepare and cook their own fry bread, using traditional ingredients and techniques. You'll learn how to create the dough, shape it, and fry it to golden perfection.

  • Share and Taste: Once the fry bread is ready, participants will have the chance to share and taste the fruits of their labor, enjoying the delicious result with the community in a spirit of togetherness.

  • Preserving a Tradition: Throughout the class, Cecile will provide insights into the importance of preserving Native traditions, especially through food, and the cultural pride that comes with passing down knowledge to future generations.
